What happened: Oregon's chances of reaching the College Football Playoff are nearly eliminated just five games into the season. The program began the year with championship goals but has faltered early.

Why it matters: The sudden collapse reshapes a season that began with significant expectations. The decline follows high-stakes tests, including a pivotal matchup against No. 12 USC.

What to watch: The program must now navigate the remainder of its schedule with reduced stakes.
