What happened: Significant rainfall and thunderstorms postponed the scheduled game between the Baltimore Orioles and Red Sox. The contest moves to July 22 as the opening leg of a split doubleheader at Fenway.

Why it matters: The weather delay pauses a critical late-July series. The Baltimore Orioles and Boston jockey for playoff positioning ahead of the looming August 3 trade deadline.

By the numbers: Boston carries a 14-game winning streak into Wednesday after taking Monday's series opener 6-5. The Orioles sit at 46-46 on the season, while the Red Sox hold a 44-44 record.

What to watch: The clubs will play two games on Wednesday to conclude the weather-altered slate.
