What happened: New England removed Jose Ramirez from its 53-man roster. Al'Zillion Hamilton signed to the practice squad as Da'Metrius Weatherspoon was released from it. Weatherspoon had signed Sept. 30 and Ramirez joined Sept. 23 after Tampa Bay drafted him 196th overall in 2023.

Why it matters: The move opens a 53-man roster spot for New England during the regular season. Turnover at the back of the roster preserves practice-squad flexibility at cornerback and on the offensive line.

By the numbers: 196) out of Eastern Michigan. Patriots tenure: signed Sept. 23, released from 53-man roster. Weatherspoon: signed Sept. 30, released from practice squad.

What to watch: New England's next addition will show how it uses the open 53-man spot. Hamilton's practice-squad role bears watching into Week 5 preparations.
