What happened: MLB Network spotlighted rookie left-hander Payton Tolle, who said he is trying to make watching him as fun as playing has felt. The post framed Tolle as a young pitcher enjoying his first extended major-league run.

Why it matters: Tolle's emergence gives the Red Sox another rotation storyline during an uneven regular season. His poise also matters because rookie starters who hold form can change a staff's short-term depth picture without forcing a trade or promotion scramble.

What to watch: Watch whether Tolle keeps missing bats as lineups get a second look at him. His next few turns will show whether the early production can hold over a larger sample.
