What happened: Pittsburgh sent defensemen Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch to Buffalo for defenseman Ryan Johnson. Johnson is a former first-round selection who has spent recent seasons primarily in the AHL.

Why it matters: Pittsburgh reduces its contract count toward the league limit. The move opens playing time for remaining left-shot options in Wilkes-Barre.

What to watch: Johnson joins Wilkes-Barre competing for a recall opportunity.
