What happened: The Pittsburgh Penguins traded defenseman Emil Pieniniemi to the Panthers on Saturday in exchange for the rights to forward Oliver Okuliar. Pieniniemi, a 2023 third-round pick, joins a Panthers organization currently bolstering its blue-line depth.

Why it matters: Pittsburgh acquires a mature 26-year-old forward who recorded 29 points in the SHL this season and won a championship with Skellefteå AIK. The Panthers add a mobile 21-year-old defenseman with two years remaining on his entry-level contract to strengthen their prospect pool.

What to watch: Okuliar remains an unsigned RFA and will need a contract to join Pittsburgh, while Pieniniemi shifts to the Panthers' development system.
