What happened: MLB Trade Rumors outlined Pittsburgh's winter roster considerations involving Keller, Valdez, and Buchanan as the front office shapes its offseason agenda. Valdez was projected by analysts in July as a long-term force in the batting order before exiting a Sept. 11 game with left hamstring discomfort.

Why it matters: Those internal evaluations run alongside an offseason checklist focused on re-signing free agent Brandon Lowe and adding another impact hitter. Pittsburgh has also been floated as a trade fit for Astros infielder Isaac Paredes to bolster the lineup.

What to watch: Pittsburgh will navigate free-agent negotiations and winter trade discussions once the 2026 World Series concludes.
