What happened: The Nashville Predators placed defenseman William Trudeau on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. He is officially considered week-to-week. The roster move comes after he departed Thursday's preseason game early.

Why it matters: The timeline stalls Trudeau's immediate push for a roster spot after he dressed for just his third career NHL game. Nashville has already reduced its training camp group to 28 players, so his absence impacts final evaluations for the defensive corps.

What to watch: Nashville cancelled its Friday practice to travel to Ottawa. The team will proceed with its final preseason preparations while Trudeau begins rehabilitation.
