What happened: The 31-year-old summer signing from Hearts went off early in Saturday's 1-0 home win over Motherwell. Derek McInnes said on Tuesday that specialists in London were assessing treatment, with clarity expected within 48 hours. Why it matters: With Youssef Chermiti also sidelined by an anterior cruciate ligament injury, McInnes faces upcoming league and League Cup meetings with Celtic without his two leading strikers. Shankland will also miss Scotland's autumn Nations League fixtures.

By the numbers: Shankland has four goals in 10 Rangers appearances this season, averaging 0.4 per appearance. He has seven goals in 22 Scotland appearances, three of them this year.

What to watch: Wednesday's match against St Mirren offers the first look at McInnes's response, with Ryan Naderi having scored the winner after replacing Shankland against Motherwell.
