What happened: Tampa Bay Rays outfield prospect Chandler Simpson hit a two-run over-the-fence home run against the Minnesota Twins in spring training. This marks his first such homer in his professional career; his only prior pro HR was an inside-the-parker in 2024 with Double-A Montgomery Biscuits. The Rays dugout erupted in celebration as the milestone ball cleared the fence.

Why it matters: Known primarily for his plus-plus speed rather than power, Simpson's development could accelerate his path to the majors amid Rays' outfield competition. Historically, this ends a drought since high school for non-assisted over-the-fence homers.

By the numbers: HR Details: Distance 344 ft | Exit Velo 99.1 mph | Launch Angle 22° | Pitcher Dan Altavilla (slider 89.1 mph). Spring Stats (prior): 6-for-13, 1 BB, 0 K.

What to watch: Monitor Simpson's spring stats and Rays roster decisions as Opening Day nears; watch for fantasy draft buzz.
