JJ Redick sure made it sound like the Lakers had plans for Bronny James this season on Wednesday. With the team in a ros Via @DanWoikeSports on X

What happened: JJ Redick indicated Wednesday that Bronny James is in the Lakers' plans for this season. The comment arrives while Los Angeles works through a roster crunch heading into the 2026-27 campaign.

Why it matters: Any regular-season role for James would affect how the Lakers use one of their limited roster spots once camp cuts arrive. It also keeps attention on Bronny James as Los Angeles balances development time against immediate depth needs.

By the numbers: NBA teams must be down to 15 players by Oct. 20. The Lakers added William Kyle III and Cole Swider on Sept. 28, tightening the competition for back-end roster spots.

What to watch: Preseason usage should offer the next clue on how large a role James might have. The final roster trim will show how much space the Lakers are willing to devote to that plan.
