What happened: JJ Redick said Dalton Knecht has handled camp like a pro, stayed in the gym all offseason and put together three good practice days to open training camp. Knecht is entering his third season with the Lakers.

Why it matters: The endorsement matters as Los Angeles sorts through the back end of a roster that still has to be trimmed before the regular season. It also arrives after trade chatter around Knecht before the opener, making each camp evaluation part of his case to stick.

What to watch: Watch where Knecht lands in preseason rotations and whether Redick's public backing carries into the Lakers' final cut decisions later this month.
