What happened: Denver Post columnist Troy Renck examined how the Rockies' trade sending reliever Seth Halvorsen to the Dodgers could serve as a template for how Colorado handles the rest of the trade deadline. Renck framed the move within an "alternate universe" scenario for how the Rockies' roster could look coming out of the deadline.

Why it matters: President of baseball operations Paul DePodesta has said the Rockies have "no mandate to move anybody" at the deadline, but the Halvorsen trade shows Colorado is willing to deal from its bullpen. With the club sitting 38-60 and mired in a five-game losing streak, further subtractions would fit a roster with little near-term contention upside.

What to watch: Colorado has until the Aug. 3 deadline to finalize any additional trades, with catcher Hunter Goodman among the players drawing continued interest.
