What happened: Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant has been ruled out for Game 3 against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a left ankle sprain, sources tell ESPN. The injury follows a tendon bruise that sidelined him for Game 1, though he was cleared for Game 2. Lakers lead first-round series 2-0.

Why it matters: Durant's absence deals a critical blow to Houston's comeback hopes against a strong Lakers squad. Playoff series shift heavily favors Los Angeles playing on the road at Toyota Center. Rockets coach Ime Udoka noted Durant is a little sore in the ankle.

What to watch: Monitor Rockets' lineup adjustments without Durant and Lakers' road performance in Game 3.
