What happened: Colorado is preparing for an aggressive offseason following the World Series, but catcher Hunter Goodman and outfielder Jake McCarthy are unlikely to be moved despite drawing external speculation. Instead, outfielders Zac Veen, Jordan Beck, and Willi Castro represent the club's more probable trade candidates as front office leadership evaluates the 40-man roster. Both Goodman and McCarthy provide established offensive production that the club considers difficult to replace at current market value.

Why it matters: Goodman is a two-time All-Star under team control through 2029 who would command a premium, controllable starting pitcher in any package, reducing Colorado's incentive to deal its primary power bat. McCarthy provides speed and positional flexibility across the outfield, though stark offensive splits outside Coors Field could limit what rival clubs offer in return. Retaining both players preserves lineup continuity as Colorado attempts to accelerate its competitive timeline.

By the numbers: Goodman hit 41 home runs in 2026 after hitting 31 in 2025. McCarthy batted .291/.334/.475 with 15 home runs and 32 stolen bases in 2026 while playing all three outfield positions. Outfielder Mickey Moniak posted a .195/.225/.379 slash line during the second half of 2026 after improving to league average defensively.

What to watch: Colorado enters November with an accelerated timeline to execute roster moves ahead of potential labor deadlines. Team officials will gauge pitching availability across the trade market as winter meetings approach.
