Roger Goodell agrees to four-year NFL extension through 2030

More than 95% of his pay is tied to performance

What happened: NFL teams were notified Sunday that the agreement runs through March 31, 2031. Robert Kraft led the compensation committee that negotiated the deal with outside counsel and an independent consultant.

Why it matters: The deal preserves leadership into the next labor negotiation, with the current collective bargaining agreement expiring the same day. Owners also enter the 2026 regular season with the commissioner’s future settled.

By the numbers: Goodell, 67, became commissioner in 2006. This is his fifth extension, following renewals in 2009, 2012, 2017 and 2023.
