What happened: On Foul Territory, hosts Ken Rosenthal and Alanna Rizzo examined whether the Milwaukee Brewers will add Brandon Woodruff to their World Series roster after he threw to live hitters Tuesday. Rosenthal said Woodruff avoided season-ending shoulder surgery and worked his way back into consideration despite not pitching in a game since July 4. However, Rosenthal explained that MLB postseason rules prohibit replacing an injured player mid-series if a chronic or recurring condition flares up.

Why it matters: If Woodruff aggravates his pre-existing shoulder issue after a single appearance in the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee would be forced to play a pitcher short for the remainder of the series. Rosenthal noted that Woodruff could take the roster spot of Chad Patrick or Kyle Harrison, neither of whom has pitched this postseason. Still, Rosenthal questioned whether Woodruff can handle back-to-back days or multiple warmups when his current build-up resembles the start of spring training.

What to watch: Milwaukee must weigh Woodruff's ability to retire hitters at lower velocities against the risk of forfeiting an active bullpen spot ahead of World Series Game 1 at American Family Field.
