What happened: Verstappen won the Mexico City Grand Prix from fourth on the grid, ahead of pole-sitter Hamilton. Russell finished sixth, behind Leclerc and Norris.

Why it matters: Teammate Kimi Antonelli's third place made him F1's youngest champion, at 20 years and 68 days. Mercedes was fined €5,000 after Toto Wolff excused Russell from the post-race media.

By the numbers: Russell lost four places from his P2 start. Verstappen gained three, from P4 to the win.

What to watch: Russell and Mercedes now turn to the remaining rounds of the 2026 season.
