What happened: Rutger McGroarty was assigned to @WBSPenguins of the AHL. He had been a healthy scratch the night before and had recently been skating as a defenseman in practice.

Why it matters: The move sends McGroarty toward regular minutes as rosters tighten ahead of the season. It also clarifies his immediate track after a choppy finish to camp that included a scratch and a position shift in practice.

What to watch: Watch how McGroarty is used with @WBSPenguins and whether strong early play pushes him back into the call-up mix. Later camp cuts should offer the next clue on his short-term path.
