What happened: The Buffalo Sabres named fan Eddie Golden as their Hockey Fights Cancer honoree for Friday's game. Golden, who was diagnosed with leukemia, will participate in pregame ceremonies to drop the ceremonial puck. The recognition is presented in partnership with the Courage of Carly Fund and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Why it matters: The NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer campaign unites clubs across the league to raise funds and awareness for patients, families, and oncology research. Buffalo regularly partners with local health organizations to spotlight community members affected by the disease during home games.

What to watch: The Sabres host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday at KeyBank Center, with game action set to follow the pregame ceremony.
