What happened: Cam Schlittler earned his first All-Star selection this season and enters the conversation for the AL Cy Young in his second year. He withdrew from the American All-Stars' 4-0 win earlier this month.

Why it matters: Schlittler credited manager Aaron Boone for early-career support as his emergence has taken pressure off a rotation the club is otherwise reinforcing through the trade market following Carlos Rodon's elbow injury. His performance has shifted him from rotation depth to a name in the year-end awards conversation.

What to watch: Watch his next few starts for whether his ERA holds as the Yankees continue evaluating deadline rotation additions.
