What happened: Smokey headed out of Williams-Brice Stadium ahead of the crowd. The early exit left the mascot first to the doors.

Why it matters: Early mascot exits read as a verdict in college football, fair or not. This one gave the Williams-Brice finale a wry closing image rather than a late rally scene.

What to watch: The next home date at Williams-Brice sets the next crowd scene.
