What happened: Dallas opened the 2026-27 regular season framing the first two weeks as progress with adjustments still needed. The club placed Oskar Bäck on injured reserve with an upper-body injury, retroactive to Oct. 14. Dallas next faces the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Why it matters: Early corrections determine positioning before the schedule compresses in the Western Conference race. Bäck's absence tests forward depth and lineup flexibility. The Chicago matchup gives Dallas a direct check on the areas it flagged for improvement.

What to watch: Watch Dallas line combinations and defensive structure against Chicago on Saturday. Bäck's recovery timeline is the next roster detail to monitor.
