What happened: Pittsburgh brought Roberts back on a one-year contract Aug. 13 as he entered his 11th NFL season. The move came as the club worked toward Sunday's 6 p.m. roster deadline.

Why it matters: The cut removes a veteran with 120 career starts from the linebacker competition. His contract included a $187,500 signing bonus but no fully guaranteed salary.

By the numbers: Roberts recorded 147 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks across 33 games for Pittsburgh in 2023-24. He made 16 starts and totaled 90 tackles in 2025.

What to watch: Pittsburgh must finalize its 53-man roster. Roberts can seek another opportunity before the regular season.
