Sean Murphy-Bunting will see immediate action in secondary.

What happened: The Pittsburgh Steelers officially ruled out top cornerback Jamel Dean for Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts due to an ankle injury. Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and safety Deshon Elliott were also ruled out for the matchup.

Why it matters: Dean's absence creates a significant vulnerability in the secondary, requiring newly-signed cornerbacks Sean Murphy-Bunting and Terell Smith to play immediately after less than a week with the team. The defensive backfield faces additional strain with Jalen Ramsey officially listed as questionable due to a wrist injury.

By the numbers: Pittsburgh has won the last five matchups against the Colts at home, with Indianapolis last securing a road victory in the series in 2008. Dean recorded 46 tackles and three interceptions in 14 games during the 2025 season.

What to watch: The Steelers will monitor the status of running back Rico Dowdle, who remains questionable, leading up to kickoff.
