What happened: Texas downgraded senior running back Hollywood Smothers from doubtful to out on Friday's SEC injury report for Saturday's game against Ole Miss in Austin. He missed practice earlier in the week with a shoulder injury. Wide receiver Kaliq Lockett and offensive lineman Jaydon Chatman also moved from doubtful to out, joining edges Colin Simmons and Richard Wesley.

Why it matters: This is the second SEC game Smothers will miss after he sat out the conference opener against Tennessee with a lower-leg injury. Freshman Derrek Cooper is listed as probable but did not play against Florida last weekend, and coach Steve Sarkisian said he was not at 100 percent. The defense is already playing without Simmons, whose absence was confirmed earlier in the week.

By the numbers: Out: RB Hollywood Smothers (shoulder), edge Colin Simmons, edge Richard Wesley, WR Kaliq Lockett, OL Jaydon Chatman. Probable: RB Derrek Cooper. Questionable: OL Jackson Christian (new to the report).

What to watch: Watch Cooper's workload at kickoff after an ankle injury in the opener cost him the Ohio State game. Also watch whether Christian, questionable, plays on an offensive line already missing Chatman.
