What happened: The Brewers' pursuit of Skubal reached an agreement in principle on a package of position prospects, according to Andy McCullough of The Athletic. Detroit's Scott Harris requested final offers before making his choice.

Why it matters: Detroit wanted pitching, while Milwaukee held on to Henderson. The Brewers later added JoJo Romero and Dustin May and won the World Series without Skubal.

What to watch: Skubal enters free agency this offseason. River Ryan's development will help determine how Detroit's return is judged.
