What happened: Robert Saleh acknowledged that Tennessee initially planned to deploy Alontae Taylor exclusively at outside cornerback before deciding to work him into the interior package, per Turron Davenport. Saleh pointed to Taylor's recent bounce-back performance as the catalyst for expanding his defensive responsibilities.

Why it matters: Moving Taylor inside plays to his strengths as a physical defender near the line of scrimmage. Originally selected 49th overall out of Tennessee in the 2022 NFL Draft, Taylor gives the coaching staff greater matchup flexibility across sub-packages as the club looks to build momentum.

By the numbers: Tennessee sits 14th in the conference at 1-5 after earning its first victory of the season in a 26-20 road win at Indianapolis on Oct. 18.

What to watch: Watch how frequently Saleh aligns Taylor over the slot on passing downs in Tennessee's next outing.
