What happened: Right-hander Tyler Wells retired José Ramírez swinging for the final out of the eighth inning in Sunday's postseason matchup.

Why it matters: Neutralizing Ramírez in a late-inning leverage spot preserves the relief bridge into the ninth frame, building on Wells' earlier two-inning October outing.

What to watch: Play moves to the ninth inning to decide the postseason contest.
