What happened: Philadelphia Union have acquired defender Kai Wagner via transfer from Birmingham City F.C. The move finalizes a return that the club had been finalizing since earlier in July.

Why it matters: Wagner rejoins a Union backline ahead of the club's 2026 regular-season return on July 22, adding a proven left-back option with recent European minutes. The Union had explained their winter decision to let Wagner leave before moving to bring him back this month.

What to watch: Wagner is expected to be assessed for a role as the Union prepare to resume their 2026 regular-season schedule on July 22.
