Víctor Mederos and Hall of Famer Walter Johnson are the only players in modern MLB history to amass the following statis Via @Braves on X

What happened: Víctor Mederos has matched Hall of Famer Walter Johnson for a unique combination of early-season pitching and hitting production. The right-hander recorded at least 9.0 innings pitched, allowed one or fewer runs, earned a save, and drove in two runs.

Why it matters: The milestone underscores the rarity of modern pitchers contributing offensively while also delivering high-leverage relief outings. Using borrowed equipment for his plate appearance, the right-hander capitalized on a rare hitting opportunity.

By the numbers: Mederos and Johnson are the only players in modern MLB history to amass this specific combination of statistics within their first five games of a season.

What to watch: Mederos will look to build on his historic start in his next relief appearance.
