What happened: Verstappen set a 1:35.130 in qualifying to grab pole for the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia at Sepang. He was quickest in Q1, Q2 and Q3 after leading FP1 on Friday, with Hamilton securing the other front-row spot.

Why it matters: It is Verstappen's first pole since the 2025 Abu Dhabi finale and a quick reversal after Antonelli led final practice at Sepang earlier Saturday. Hamilton's front-row start keeps the run to Turn 1 tight, while Hadjar and Antonelli on row two leave little room for a clean getaway.

By the numbers: Verstappen swept every qualifying segment and converted it into the fastest lap of the session at 1:35.130. The top five on the grid are Verstappen, Hamilton, Hadjar, Antonelli and Leclerc.

What to watch: Sunday's race opens with Verstappen and Hamilton side by side into the first corner. The early test is whether Red Bull's one-lap edge holds once the field settles into race pace.
