What happened: During a broadcast on 60 Minutes, Victor Wembanyama reflected on his early professional development under former San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. The center emphasized the value of learning humility from the NBA's all-time winningest coach during his formative seasons in the league.

Why it matters: Popovich's mentorship established the structural foundation for San Antonio's current roster before his departure from the sideline. That continuity has translated to early stability as the Spurs navigate the opening weeks of the 2026-27 campaign.

By the numbers: Wembanyama is averaging 28.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in 2026-27 through 6 games. San Antonio is 4-2 over that span following a 121-111 victory against Minnesota.

What to watch: San Antonio hosts the Utah Jazz next as the Spurs look to build on their 4-2 start.
