What happened: Victor Wembanyama strung together stops across the floor during early action in the opening-night window. The stretch came on the NBC national broadcast to start 2026-27.

Why it matters: The tone matters because rim protection anchors his reigning Defensive Player of the Year case. He entered the season spotlighted in the 2026-27 GM survey discussion.

What to watch: Sustained rim protection without foul trouble will show whether the early disruption holds.
