Why it matters: For the Wizards, the top pick gives the same franchise a direct shot at adding elite talent in June. For the Commanders and the city, the 2027 NFL Draft extends Washington's national sports spotlight beyond this NBA offseason.

By the numbers: Top 4 in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery: 1. Washington Wizards, 2. Utah Jazz, 3. Memphis Grizzlies, 4. Chicago Bulls. Washington entered the lottery with 14.0% odds to win the No. 1 pick. The NFL announced on May 5, 2025, that Washington, D.C., will host the 2027 NFL Draft.

What to watch: Watch how Washington uses the top NBA pick as the June draft approaches. On the NFL side, the next marker is more buildup around logistics and promotion for the 2027 draft in Washington.
