Reese won 2026 Defensive Player of the Year in Atlanta

What happened: Yahoo Sports published a column saying WNBA media treat Angel Reese unfairly. The same outlet recently criticized Caitlin Clark fans for their behavior during the WNBA Finals.

Why it matters: Reese has been one of the league's most debated players since the Chicago Sky traded her to Atlanta. She won 2026 Defensive Player of the Year after the deal and reached the WNBA Finals six months later. Earlier this month, fans pushed back on an ESPN plea about her by pointing out that the Sky traded her away.

By the numbers: 2026 Defensive Player of the Year. Reached the WNBA Finals six months after the trade from Chicago. Had 30 points and 16 rebounds in the Finals game before Game 3.

What to watch: Reese goes into the 2027 season as the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, and coverage of her is still a flashpoint.
