What happened: New York Yankees bench coach Brad Ausmus is interviewing for the Houston Astros' managerial vacancy, according to Jon Heyman. Ausmus visited Houston on Thursday, one day before the club announced Randy Flores as its new general manager.

Why it matters: Ausmus previously managed the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels, bringing prior managerial experience to an organization restructuring its front office under Flores. The opening follows Houston parting ways with former general manager Dana Brown in August.

What to watch: Houston continues its managerial search as the front office prepares for the start of the offseason.
