What happened: The Yankees placed captain Aaron Judge on the 60-day injured list Saturday as he continues recovering from a fractured rib. Judge needs another scan before any major ramp-up of baseball activities.

Why it matters: Judge earned his eighth All-Star selection this month, a mark of how central he remains to New York's lineup even while sidelined. A Yankees legend recently warned GM Brian Cashman over the pace of Judge's recovery, and the 60-day designation formally extends his absence beyond the minimum IL window.

By the numbers: Specialist Dr. Gregory Pearl found further healing in the rib, per Bryan Hoch, though manager Aaron Boone said Judge is still not cleared to begin baseball activities.

What to watch: Watch for the results of Judge's next scan to determine when he can resume baseball activities.
