What happened: NFL insider Jordan Schultz said on a podcast that the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears have been connected to pass rushers Josh Sweat, Khalil Mack and DeForest Buckner. Schultz projected 12 to 20 trades across the league and said he would be shocked if San Francisco and Chicago do not complete a deal.

Why it matters: San Francisco seeks pass-rush help after falling 29-20 to the 3-4 Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 25, when Atlanta consistently pressured Kyle Shanahan's offense with a four-man rush. The 0-6 Los Angeles Chargers have drawn trade inquiries with the 35-year-old Mack in the final year of his contract, while Buckner previously played for the 49ers from 2016 through 2019. Meanwhile, the 5-2 Bears have won two straight behind quarterback Caleb Williams and are also looking to bolster their defensive front.

By the numbers: Mack has recorded three sacks, six tackles for loss and 14 pressures in 2026, including one sack, two tackles for loss and three pressures against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4. In 2025, per ESPN, Sweat logged 30 tackles and 12 sacks in 17 games, Mack posted 32 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 12 games with the Chargers, and Williams completed 330 of 568 passes for 3,942 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 17 games for the Bears.

What to watch: San Francisco general manager John Lynch and Chicago's front office have until the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline to finalize any defensive additions.
