49ers urged to pursue Vita Vea after trade request

Vea is due $18 million in his contract's final year

Wire Report IntelligenceUpdated Jul 281 min read

What happened: NFL Network reported that Vita Vea requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after extension talks stalled. Ted Nguyen reported that Vea prefers a California team or the Las Vegas Raiders.

Why it matters: San Francisco could pair Vea with Nick Bosa and Osa Odighizuwa while reinforcing an interior line short on proven pressure. The move would also answer a Los Angeles Rams defense strengthened by Myles Garrett.

By the numbers: Vea produced 44 pressures, 4.5 sacks and 13 quarterback hits across 479 pass-rushing snaps in 2025. San Francisco's defensive tackles combined for 45 pressures, while Vea played all 17 games and logged 827 defensive snaps.

What to watch: Tampa Bay must decide whether to reopen contract talks or solicit offers. Vea's training-camp participation and the Buccaneers' asking price will shape the market.
