What happened: Sandy Alcantara finished off a win with the first save of his MLB career after a game that ran past midnight. The outing drew immediate attention because he had already thrown 101 pitches Monday night before getting the ball again late.

Why it matters: A pitcher working that kind of load and then closing out a game is unusual even in September. It comes a week after Alcantara called the Marlins' position "devastating", giving the club an unlikely late-game lift during a difficult stretch.

What to watch: Watch how Alcantara's next appearance is lined up after the late save and whether this stays a one-off bullpen wrinkle.
