What happened: Alcantara got the final outs from the bullpen for the first save of his career. The appearance came two days after a 101-pitch start Monday for Sandy Alcantara and marked his first relief outing since 2017.

Why it matters: That kind of turnaround is unusual for a starter and adds another wrinkle to how he can be used late in the season. It also puts fresh attention on his workload after he moved from a full start to a save chance in the same week.

What to watch: Watch whether this stays a one-off deployment or opens more late-inning work for him over the season's final stretch. His next outing should show how the quick turnaround fits into his regular routine.
