Alec Pierce on track to play Colts opener against Ravens

What happened: Shane Steichen confirmed the plan after Pierce worked back from ankle surgery performed in March. Indianapolis removed him from PUP on Aug. 27, clearing him to resume practice.

Why it matters: Pierce's availability preserves a key downfield element against Baltimore. It also reduces the need for Indianapolis to reshuffle its receiving rotation in Week 1.

By the numbers: Pierce completed his first full practice of the summer Sept. 3, 10 days before the Sept. 13 opener.

What to watch: The Colts' first injury report will indicate whether Pierce carries a game designation.
