What happened: Kimi Antonelli has been cleared for Friday practice at the Mexico City Grand Prix after recovering from a viral illness. The FIA excused Antonelli from Thursday media obligations as a precaution to allow him extra rest. Mercedes confirmed he is fit and ready to take part in opening track sessions.

Why it matters: Antonelli enters the race weekend with an opportunity to seal the youngest F1 title in Mexico City. A decisive finish at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez would secure the championship following his wire-to-wire win at the United States Grand Prix.

By the numbers: Antonelli holds 9 Grand Prix victories in 2026, most recently converting pole position into a race win at Circuit of the Americas ahead of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.

What to watch: Opening practice for the Mexico City Grand Prix begins Friday, with qualifying scheduled for Saturday.
