What happened: On the Ariel Helwani Show, the Boys in the Back hosts debated whether Floyd Mayweather and Ryan Garcia will actually meet in a non-exhibition bout. On the show, one co-host argued the matchup makes business sense and said Mayweather is willing to risk his undefeated record because he believes he can beat Garcia. Another co-host countered on the podcast that he doubts Mayweather will face a fighter in his late 20s in a sanctioned fight, saying he will believe the matchup is real only when he sees it.

Why it matters: The hosts pointed to a reminder from Dan Rafael noting that Mayweather still has contracts in place with Netflix and CSI for a Manny Pacquiao rematch and a Mike Tyson exhibition, alongside criminal charges in a bad-check case. One host explained on the program that a hand injury to Tyson forced a schedule shift that created a cascading delay across those CSI obligations and held up the Pacquiao fight. Even so, that host contended on the show that facing Garcia in his prime offers stronger casual appeal than a rematch with an older Pacquiao if the legal and contractual hurdles are cleared.

What to watch: According to the hosts on the Ariel Helwani Show, any path to a Mayweather-Garcia bout depends on whether Mayweather can untangle his existing contractual commitments and find a backer to finance the event.
