What happened: Jake Bauers' return timeline remains uncertain, while the New York Yankees are assessing outfield targets during Cody Bellinger's absence. X-rays showed Curtis Mead broke his wrist in his debut game. Yordan Alvarez has emerged as the AL MVP frontrunner with Aaron Judge sidelined.

Why it matters: The injuries complicate deadline plans for the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees, two potential buyers now facing new roster gaps. The Detroit Tigers' recent slide could also make them more willing to listen on Tarik Skubal.

What to watch: Watch for offers involving Skubal and for the Yankees and Brewers to pursue injury replacements before the deadline.
