What happened: The Atlanta Braves shared a check-in from California, signaling the start of their West Coast swing against the San Diego Padres. The two clubs are set to square off with first pitch still ahead. The post landed amid the usual #BravesCountry engagement from the team's traveling fan base.

Why it matters: The trip matters for an Atlanta team that has separated itself near the top of the National League standings and is looking to bank road wins against a Padres side hovering around .500. A strong showing in San Diego would help the Braves protect their cushion through the meat of the summer schedule. For the Padres, home dates against a contender are a measuring stick as they fight to climb the standings.

What to watch: Watch the pitching matchup and how Atlanta's offense travels into San Diego's pitcher-friendly park as the series gets underway.
