What happened: California medical staff will evaluate quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele and defensive back Kingston Lopa on the field before a scheduled game against Virginia Tech. The two players are progressing through head injury protocols. An official ruling on their active status will occur following the pregame session.

Why it matters: Sagapolutele previously sustained a concussion on a roughing the passer play. The potential return of the quarterback and defensive back directly impacts the California game plan against the Hokies.

What to watch: The Golden Bears will release their final active roster just prior to kickoff.
