What happened: Montreal established a two-goal cushion in the third period before Pittsburgh rallied in the final minutes. Sidney Crosby scored with 3:11 remaining to bring Pittsburgh within one, but the equalizer never materialized before time expired.

Why it matters: The victory secures two points in early regular-season play as Montreal protects home ice in the rivalry matchup. Pittsburgh leaves the road contest unable to convert late pressure into points in the standings.

What to watch: Pittsburgh continues its road trip looking to rebound, while Montreal prepares for its next Eastern Conference contest.
