What happened: The St. Louis Cardinals promoted their matchup with the Kansas City Royals while urging fans to vote for outfielder Jordan Walker, nicknamed JWalk, in 2026 All-Star balloting. The post pairs the scheduled interleague game with the team's ongoing campaign to push Walker onto the National League roster.

Why it matters: St. Louis enters at 40-32 and in the thick of the playoff race, while Kansas City sits at 30-45 and is playing for development and trade-deadline positioning. The All-Star push reflects the Cardinals' effort to get one of their young bats national recognition during a competitive season.

By the numbers: Season to date: Cardinals 40-32 (4.5 runs scored, 4.4 allowed); Royals 30-45 (4.0 scored, 4.7 allowed). The teams split a recent series in May, with Kansas City winning 2-0 on May 17 and St. Louis taking 4-2 and 5-4 decisions on May 16 and 15.

What to watch: First pitch and the Cardinals' lineup are the immediate items to watch, along with whether Walker's vote totals climb as the All-Star balloting period continues.
